Our Story
A Journey of Whiskers and Wisdom
A Journey of Whiskers and Wisdom : The Whole Cat and Kaboodle’s journey began with a passion for helping cats and a recognition of their unique needs. Founded by Nancy Howard, our story is one of dedication, growth, and a deep commitment to feline welfare.
Nancy’s journey in cat care started over 25 years ago with rescue work. In 2000, she opened The Sanctuary at Hidden Creek Ranch, a 5000 sq ft outdoor enclosed space for unadoptable cats, which currently houses over 120 felines.
The transition from rescue to business came in 2012 when Nancy decided to make her passion her profession. Working at a high-end pet store, she immersed herself in learning about cat nutrition, attending classes taught by veterinarians, manufacturers, and scientists. This knowledge formed the foundation of what would become The Whole Cat and Kaboodle.
In May 2013, the first store opened in a modest 600 sq ft space, offering grooming, boarding, nutrition advice, behavior modification, and adoptions. The concept quickly proved successful, leading to expansion. By 2015, we had moved to a 1000 sq ft location, allowing us to broaden our services and retail offerings.
2017 marked a significant milestone with our move to our current location. This larger space allowed us to introduce our cat lounge and adoption center, where we now facilitate around 300 adoptions annually. Our focus on hard-to-place cats, with over 80% requiring some form of rehabilitation, has become a cornerstone of our work.
Today, The Whole Cat and Kaboodle stands as a unique entity in our state – a comprehensive cat care center offering services from grooming and boarding to nutrition counseling and behavior modification. Our success in rehabilitating cats through nutrition and holistic care has garnered attention from other shelters and rescue organizations.
As we continue to grow, our commitment remains the same: to be a beacon of knowledge and support for cat owners, always striving to improve the lives of cats through understanding, compassion, and expertise.
